A film processing lab in Sydney – both black and white and colour was the primary reason for establishing The Light Room. But the history behind the owner demonstrates more than just an interest in film photography.
A film processing lab in Sydney, The Lightroom, is the brainchild of David Cubbin. Film processing, and professional headshots. High-quality film development, digital scans, and stunning headshots for business, actors, and creatives.
After five years shooting underwater in the Caribbean. Studio and location photography became his bread and butter upon returning to the UK.
Then, 5 Years ago, the allure of Australia beckoned, and David’s narrative took a transformative turn as he pursued his dreams and found love in Amanda, affectionately known as “The Wife.” It was in pursuit of these dreams and fuelled by a passion for photography that David realised his vision, establishing The Light Room, a film processing facility, photography studio and retail environment in the heart of Sydney
In the early stages of his career, David built a strong foundation in film photography, capturing moments both above and below the water. As the digital revolution unfolded, he wholeheartedly embraced digital photography and the accompanying peripheral technologies. However, acknowledging the resurgence of film’s allure, The Light Room was conceived as a haven for film enthusiasts.
At the core of The Light Room’s offerings is film processing. Catering to a growing clientele, supporting both Colour C41 and Black and White formats. The studio, equipped for digital or film endeavors, produces high-quality portraits, and impactful personal and product branding shots. David also has a fine art website selling Drone images of the NSW coastline and iconic buildings of Sydney @ David Charles Photographer
Beyond the studio walls, The Light Room extends into the vibrant Surry Hills surroundings. David’s ‘Walk and Talk’ photography sessions offer a unique blend of education and exploration. Participants not only witness the stunning architecture, flora and fauna, but also gain insights from David’s wealth of experience. These beginner sessions, aim to foster a sense of community, encouraging an exchange of ideas about photography. The Light Room stands not just as a film lab/studio but a hub for creativity, and education, in Sydney.
