This week's Picture of the Week was selected not only for its composition, but also for the lighting and depth of field, all of which enhance this simple portrait of two people. As Sam tells, this portrait is extra special because it marks the place where they all first met.

It's a fantastic example of Ilford XP2, a black-and-white film processed through C41 (colour negative) chemistry.

We feel it strikes a perfect balance between a natural look and storytelling, leaving the viewer curious about the narrative behind the image. Sometimes, that sense of intrigue is what makes an image truly memorable.

Well done to @samwellcollins — you’ve earned a free development and scan for your next film. 🎉

And as always, remember to Take Risks and Shoot Film! 📸

Personally, I’m not a big fan of expired film - the reason being, there are challenges enough on the journey with film without an additional layer of mystery. However there are times when expired film can bring something unexpected to the table. These images were shot by foreignskin in 2014 , on film that expired in 2010 and processed at The Light Room last week (2025). Additionally, they survived airport scanning all the way from the uk and also Covid (remember that!)!
What are your thought on these images and on expired film? And thanks for allowing me to share these amazing shots Flavia. 😊🙏

This week’s Picture of the Week was taken on Mount Wilson by @elysecurleyliu with a Canon EOS 30 with 50mm lens. We thought the early morning light beautifully captured the feeling of the bush and gave it a painterly effect. Well done and a free Dev & scan next time you visit The Light Room.
